CRISPR babies and soldiers who feel no pain … this bioethical decision lies in the hands of Putin
A top secret meeting was held between Russian scientists a couple of weeks ago. They appear to be interested in continuing the CRISPR work that China had started (and then halted for ethical reasons) on babies with genetic modifications. As the story goes, Putin’s daughter, Maria Vorontsova, attended the summit to discuss how scientific progress could be continued but controlled, perhaps by limiting production of CRISPR babies to “state institutions.”
(Colonies, perhaps?)
It’s not the first time Putin’s expressed an interest this technology. He had compared CRISPR to a nuclear bomb and cited the possibility of creating soldiers who feel no pain.
(Pain Colonies, perhaps?)
And he’d directed $2 billion dollars into genetic research. “It will determine the future of the whole world.”
