What if you never felt pain?
Peter Attia, MD, recently wrote an article entitled What if you never felt pain or anxiety? which discusses the potential link between pain and anxiety. A NY Times article had documented the case of a woman who doesn’t feel pain, due to a gene microdeletion. And, now with CRISPR technology, scientists can mimic this genetic abnormality in normal human cell lines. It might sound like a dream, especially to those who experience chronic pain, but there is a significant downside. Without pain, how will we know when we’re damaging our bodies? And what are the psychological implications of feeling no pain? One possibility: The Superhero Complex.
